Microneedling stimulates the body’s natural healing qualities to rejuvenate the skin, resulting in a healthier and brighter complexion. It harnesses the skin’s natural healing ability by gently puncturing the dermis with microscopic needles. Advanced Dermatology & Skin Surgery uses SkinPen® by Bellus Medical, which contains tiny needles that create microchannels in the skin. These small wounds force the skin to repair itself naturally through a process called dermal remodeling, stimulating your body to produce more collagen and elastin.

Microneedling treatments are not just for your face. They are designed to rejuvenate your skin, reduce signs of aging, and improve skin tone and texture on any part of your body, including the neck, arms, and décolleté (low neckline). Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, enhances product absorption but also aids in rejuvenation, addressing concerns such as acne scars, sunspots, melasma, fine lines and wrinkles, large pores, and stretch marks.

Who is the Ideal Candidate for Microneedling?

According to the Mayo Clinic, microneedling is safe for all skin colors and types. Since it does not have the heat element that laser treatments have, it will not affect your skin’s pigmentation. People usually respond well to treatments, and they require minimal recovery time.

This type of treatment is not recommended for anyone who has the following conditions: Hepatitis C, HIV or Aids, any type of blood cancer, skin cancer on the area to be treated, or anyone who has been using Accutane in the past six months. It is also not recommended if you have wounds or infections, have undergone radiation in the past year, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What to Expect Post-Treatment

You can resume most of your normal activities the next day. You will want to avoid any sun exposure, tanning beds, swimming, or strenuous activity. You also want to avoid hot water, steam, heat, and harsh skin treatments during the first few days. Do not rub or pick at your face. You’ll want to use a gentle soap on your skin with tepid water and a simple moisturizer. Further aftercare instructions will be provided at the end of your treatment by your Dermatology Provider.

You may have some swelling and redness, and some may experience some bruising. These usually clear within four to five days.

How Quickly Will I See Microneedling Treatment Results?

It can take a few weeks to show results, as the body takes time to produce collagen and heal itself. You will notice some visible improvement in two to three weeks, and in four to six weeks, you will see some marked results. People with acne scars may notice a gradual improvement in the skin in less than nine months.

Depending on the condition you are treating, you may need two to three treatments. If you have deep scars in your skin, you may require three to six treatments. These multiple treatments are done four to six weeks apart to allow the skin to heal.
