AUTUMN ALLURE: EMBRACE THE BEAUTY OF FALL WITH OUR OCTOBER SPECIALS AT ADVANCED DERMATOLOGY & SKIN SURGERY

Fall is right around the corner. This new season brings a different type of cozy beauty that many of us embrace as the summer heat starts to wane. Fall is a great time of the year to give our skin a full renewal pamper to heal it from the heat of the summer and prepare it for winter’s harshness. Advanced Dermatology & Skin Surgery’s October Special will help you do that. IPL Photofacials are geared towards revitalizing your skin and helping you produce more collagen, helping your skin renew itself.

INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL) PHOTOFACIAL

Intense Pulsed Light therapy, or IPL, targets hemoglobin (the red blood cells in the blood vessels) or melanin (the brown pigment in freckles) using light waves. The light bypasses the outer layer of skin and gently heats the cells in the deeper layer of skin, the dermis. These cells, called fibroblasts, produce more collagen, improving texture and fine wrinkles.  Our supply of collagen dwindles as we age, and this treatment is highly beneficial for facial revitalization. It can also be used on the neck, chest, hands, and other body parts.

IPL is used for a variety of skin conditions:

  • Lightens and removes sun spots and brown patches on the face, neck, chest, hands, and other parts of the body.
  • Soothes the redness of rosacea and helps control flushing.
  • Removes and minimizes “broken” blood vessels
  • Improves skin tone because it stimulates collagen
  • Minimizes pore size and fine lines

There is little discomfort or downtime, and the benefits are excellent. Treatments take approximately 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area to be treated. Generally, the area is numbed 30 minutes before the treatment begins. The patient wears glasses to protect the eyes. As the handpiece is moved over the face, the pulsing light feels like a series of snaps from a rubber band.  After the treatment, there may be a little swelling and redness.

A Series of Treatments is Best

IPL treatments are most successful if the patient plans to have several done over a period of months. Three to five treatments are recommended for mild to moderate skin damage. Depending on the level of damage, more treatments may be indicated. With each treatment, the skin gradually clears.

Once your skin has been rejuvenated, you will want to keep the glowing results. To avoid the reappearance of brown patches and age spots, you must take precautions to avoid sun exposure and damage. Your results will not last long if you do not protect your skin from the sun.

Here are some other recommendations to help you keep your skin glowing:

  • Wear a hat and sunglasses
  • Wear sunscreen every day on your face and hands
  • Schedule maintenance appointments twice a year
  • Discuss pharmaceutical-grade skin products with your aesthetician
