Questions and answers about Psoriasis

Q: What types of treatments are currently available for psoriasis?

A: Until now, finding an effective treatment—or combination of treatments—has frustrated patients and physicians alike. You have probably tried topical medications, such as coal tar, steroids, vitamin D analogs, etc. You may have even experienced brief remissions, with lengthy sessions of phototherapy or medications. Today, psoriasis sufferers have new hope in the XTRAC® excimer laser treatment system.

Q: How is the XTRAC® excimer laser system different?

A: The XTRAC® excimer laser system is light-years ahead of other psoriasis treatments. Using a carefully focused beam of laser light delivered through a sophisticated liquid light guide, the XTRAC® system can treat unsightly psoriatic skin plaques quickly and effectively. Because it concentrates light on active lesions, XTRAC® delivers high-exposure doses necessary for rapid clearing without risk of damage to healthy skin.

Q: Who is a candidate for treatment?

A: Individuals with mild to moderate psoriasis can often obtain relief in just four to ten brief treatment sessions. You may see some results after just one treatment.

Q: How long do treatment sessions last?

A: Most treatment sessions last only a few minutes—1n fact, less than five minutes—compared to rigorous daily skin care regimens or weeks of
phototherapy sessions.

Q: How long will I stay free of outbreaks?

A: Each case is unique. But many psoriasis sufferers who have experienced XTRAC® treatment have found that relief usually lasts for several months and can last up to six months or more. Often remissions last as long as with conventional phototherapy, but you will probably need fewer treatments
per year to remain free of symptoms.

Q: What happens during an XTRAC® treatment?

A: First, your physician will determine your optimum dosage level. Then the XTRAC® hand-piece is moved over the affected area, applying laser light at your determined dose. Depending on the area to be treated this only takes a few minutes.

Q: Does it make any difference where my  lesions are?

A: Due to its “site-specific” liquid light guide delivery system, the XTRAC® system can be used successfully on hard-to-treat areas of the body such as elbows and knees.

Q: Is XTRAC® treatment safe?

A: XTRAC® has fewer of the drawbacks often associated with other psoriasis treatments, such as premature aging of healthy skin, skin thinning or resistance to medication.
